The Lost Feather of Ku, cont. (continued from Page 4)
The sky opens up and it starts pouring rain. Thunder and lightning shake the house and rattles the windows. Suddenly the power goes out and everyone is on edge and jumpy. Shortly after sunset the rain stops and gives way to an eerie fog.
In the distance Keoni hears some chanting and drumming. He somehow knows that Ku will be coming for him. The music of the night marchers gets louder and louder and they come closer to the house. It sounds like they are in the street right in front. He can see the fog creeping under the door and spilling onto the floor. All of the sudden the chanting and drumming stops and there is a bang on the door. "Don't open it!" yells Keoni. But it's too late. Keoni's father has already turned the knob. An enormous man is standing there and he glares at Keoni. He is dressed in the ceremonial head dress of Ku except is missing one red feather. Keoni runs to the kitchen but Ku is too fast and beats him there. Ku pulls out a long koa carved spear and puts the tip to Keoni's neck. Keoni has never been so scared in his life. But then he remembers that the feather is still in his pocket. Keoni tries to reach his pocket but Ku's spear keeps his hand too far away. Keoni is stretching his fingers as far as he can but just barely touches the cloth of the pocket. Ku notices Keoni struggling and in one swift movement slices Keoni's pocket and the feather falls to the floor. Ku gracefully scoops up the feather, turns and gives Keoni one last glare, and then disappears.
